We weren’t butchers…..

…but the opportunity to move to our favourite part of the world presented itself as a plunge into the unknown and taking over the legacy of the popular Akaroa Butchery + Deli.

We are T Dunn and Julia Atkinson-Dunn, a married couple who were previously based in Christchurch working as a bricklayer/picture framer and garden writer/artist (so many slashes!).
We had relentlessly visited Akaroa Harbour for over 8 years to enjoy it’s beauty and sport in diving, fishing and general life on and around the water. The Akaroa Butchery had been on the market for sometime when we decided to take a drastic turn in our life direction and embark on a new adventure, learning and running a business together.

This adventure began in December 2023 and we have thoroughly enjoyed being welcomed into this fabulous small community and being part of the buzz of summer and calm of winter in the village.

Thank you for supporting local.

AKAROA + THE BAYS

Akaroa and the bays hold a magic that is hard to believe at times!
It’s heritage charm is cradled in a dramatic volcanic landscape making for protected, fertile growing conditions, a harbour rich with wildlife and beauty that ebbs and flows with the seasons.

Maori settled in the fertile harbour 800 years before the British, French and German settlers in 1840. It is Canterbury’s oldest town and in the early 1900’s was known as ‘the riviera of Canterbury’!
Colonial era buildings mingle with modern structure and function, with each bay sprinkled with farms, homes and bachs provided with epic views of the sea and valleys.

Beyond the natural beauty there are fantastic locally run options for accommodation, food, activity and shopping to explore. And don’t skip a visit to the amazing Akaroa Museum, located next door to the butchery.
